Gus Matthew Vineyard

After extensive research, we found the perfect location to plant our vineyard: Willow Creek in the western part of Paso Robles. This region benefits from a temperate climate shaped by the Pacific Ocean, with cool evenings and warm days ideal for viticulture. The region is also known for its diverse soils, including limestone, calcareous clay, and gravel, which provide excellent drainage and contribute to the depth and minerality of the wines. This unique terroir, combined with the varied topography, gives the wines a distinct complexity. While our vineyard is still maturing, we’re fortunate to source grapes from our neighbors, G2 and G2N, ensuring our first vintage is exceptional.
One unique feature specifically caught our attention and solidified this was the place for us. At the base of the upper block of the vineyard, a band of exposed limestone forms mesmerizing geometric patterns, and from it oak trees emerge. The sight was proof to us that from this limestone, amazing things could grow.
G2 & G2North Vineyards
While the Gus Matthew Vineyard matures, we are fortunate to source fruit from one of Paso Robles’ most renowned vineyards.
G2 Vineyard represents a defining chapter in the modern history of the Willow Creek District of Paso Robles. Established by Bill and Debbie Gibbs, the vineyard was born from a vision to expand upon the excellence of the neighboring Heart Hill. In 2013, the Gibbs family took on the challenge of this rugged, 95-acre site, transforming it into one of the most prestigious fruit sources in Paso Robles.
G2 Vineyard is characterized by steep, south-facing slopes and high-calcium limestone, this site challenges the vines to dig deep for character. Located in the heart of the Willow Creek District, G2 benefits from the cooling Templeton Gap breeze, allowing for a long, slow ripening period. The result is a portfolio of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Graciano all known for intense aromatics, vibrant acidity, and a structural backbone that has made it one of the most sought-after fruit sources in the region.
Located just half a mile north of the iconic James Berry Vineyard, G2 North (G2N) is the latest addition to the Gibbs family portfolio. While its sister site, G2, is celebrated for its rugged Rhone expressions, G2 North was acquired in 2022 to showcase a different side of the Willow Creek District: the power and precision of Bordeaux-style wines.
Spanning 80 acres of rolling hills and rocky calcareous soils, G2 North shares the same high-calcium limestone profile that defines the region’s most prestigious sites. However, the focus here shifts toward Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, along with specialized plantings of Sangiovese. The vineyard’s unique aspect and proximity to the cooling breezes of the Templeton Gap allow these varieties to achieve full phenolic ripeness while retaining the electric acidity and mineral tension that are the hallmarks of Westside Paso Robles.
